The primary aim is to use the voice without any sense of strain or discomfort.
Good vocal use (whether for speech or singing) depends on safe, appropriate, effective and challenging training. The primary aim is to use the voice without any sense of strain or discomfort and convey songs clearly, accurately and expressively. The objective of technical training is to allow the vocal mechanism to operate freely and with excellent technical control. Technical exercises for beginners may be drawn, for example from
Vaccai,
Marchesi and repertoire from the standard
Italian Aria Antiche and
Italian art songs moving on to
Schubert,
Brahms Schumann etc.
English and
French art songs (you can see examples by clicking on the links).
During the first session students' aims will be discussed in order to produce an effective individual programme of study and practice, which can also include
music theory, aural training and sight singing.
EXAMINATIONS
Preparation for examinations in Singing, Music Theory, General Musicianship, Piano, Speech and Drama, can be incorporated into most classes with any of the main examining bodies:
London College of Music Exams,
Associated Board,
Trinity Guildhall.
REMEDIAL WORK
Some singers experience technical problems that can be a hindrance as well as a source of frustration but with careful attention to the cause and an appropriate course of remedial study it is often possible to alleviate the difficulty.
SINGING FOR ACTORS & NON-SINGING ACTORS
